Letter from Executive Director
The Oklahoma Wildlife Federation is our state's oldest conservation organization. For more than 55 years the Federation has brought the voice of reason to wildlife conservation in Oklahoma. A federation is made up of diverse groups of people with different interests that come together to reach a common goal. Our Federation is a true federation; standing for common sense in wildlife conservation.
Many of our members are birdwatchers, hunters, bikers, fishermen, boasters, campers, and people who genuinely love the Oklahoma outdoors. Oklahoma is facing many challenges-challenges in funding, challenges in access to public lands for the outdoor enthusiasts, and challenges due to aquatic invasive species. Our goal is to find answers to these problems. Clean water, clean air, and good scientifically based wildlife management is good for everyone, no matter what your outdoor interests may be.
The Oklahoma Wildlife Federation realizes the tremendous importance that good legislation has for hunters, anglers, outdoor enthusiasts, and the future of wildlife. Due to the fact that Oklahoma has very little public lands, the future of wildlife depends upon our ability to successfully partner with private landowners. We know from experience that a majority of private landowners, ranchers, and farmers, have a strong conservation ethic and are good stewards of the land. Therefore, the Oklahoma Wildlife Federation strongly endorses good legislation which provides financial assistance to private landowners to restore, enhance, and manage private land in order to improve fish and wildlife habitats.
The Federation will once again be teaching hunter safety courses. They will cover a variety of topics including firearms safety, survival methods, hunter archery, muzzle loading, hunter responsibility, wildlife identification, and wildlife conservation and management. In addition, we will be involved with teaching water safety courses that will promote the sport of fishing and aquatic resource awareness, a way to give youth opportunities to learn how to fish and about Oklahoma's aquatic environments. We want to participate in the education of future Oklahoma hunters and anglers.
